Lesson 1 Classification:
Classification website:  http://www.kidsbiology.com/biology_basics/classification/classification1.php
Use this site after they make their own groups of the animal and plant cards to show different animal taxas before having them decide where their animals go on the animal tree and then finish by having them come up and tape them on.  Animal taxon groups with pictures of real animals:  http://www.kidzone.ws/animals/animal_classes.htm
Use this site after they put their animals on the classroom tree.  Some examples of taxons are mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians, and arthropods. Brian pop video on animal classifications:  http://www.brainpopjr.com/science/animals/classifyinganimals/

Behavioral adaptations or innate behaviors compared to learned behaviors with examples.
An interesting behavioral adaptation for about 50% of octopi, but it can be a learned behavior for the other 50% if they are put in a tank where they can watch another octopus do it.  Wow!
Watch this video to see some amazing behavioral adaptations.  Warning, they do say the bad word for poop when the calf gets attacked, so you might want to push the mute button before watching.  However, there is a happy ending for the calf.
